building apps
shipping apps like the hero of 12 angry men
I’m trying to keep up my moral compass. I really am. When all the media bombards me with “how I’m making $100k from my app”, or “$20k MR app building tiktok channel”, I resist. I know what I like and what I value. So should I make crap that statistically work?
Should I trust a stochastic machine whose answers are just statistical averages?
I won’t.
Because, I want to be able to do what I like and enjoy. It’s my free time after all. I don’t enjoy neither building nor going through 20 pages of onboarding with a hard paywall at the end. So why would I do it?
I stand up. I have reasonable doubt. I don’t think it’s good.
Churn. People churn. You think you are going to get rich by deceiving people to start a trial and convert? Just get access to your half-baked app? Some will pay for it, pay, pay, and pay for months. But when you look at the logs. They are gone.
They didn’t open the app for the last 90 days. Show me how many engaged users you have, not what’s your MRR pumped by meta ads.
Seems like the whole internet went bananas.
Reddit is unrecognizable, most subreddits transformed into endless stream of generated slop.
I’m sorry. I’m guilty. I’ve posted on reddit about my apps. It’s just that there LLMs swallow the hook, line and sinker.
I believe my app is great, I’ve been making apps for ten years. This one is good. But made straight into the shitstorm of vibe-coded apps. I hope the history tells.
In the meantime, let me just add new features, maybe I can somehow manage without marketing.
